Now watch patient ML doing the plausibility-judgments
task. There will be a beep, then the sentence will play. ML has been told to press
the left key if he thinks the sentence is sensible and the right key if he thinks
it is silly. This judgment is based on the event, not on any aspect of the choice
of words. He has also been told to work quickly, but not at the expense of accuracy.
The demo you will watch comprises practice items. So, if ML makes an error, he
is buzzed and has to restart the task by pressing the spacebar. Notice how the
sentences vary in structure. The approximate time he took to respond will be displayed
on the screen; so notice the difference between the structures. He is particularly
slow on the fifth one because of its more complex structure.
