Sound Advice - The Tool for Auditory
Display Designers
This tool has been developed to provide some basic design principles for auditory display designers. It is based on a searchable data base that returns to users design principles and references of relevant articles.
It is possible to use the data base as a "virtual consultant" in auditory design by specifying the context, data type, etc. for a specific auditory display problem. The tool also allows different levels of specificity in returning results: very focused on a small domain or more general to include tangential information.
While the information in the data base has been initially based on previous research articles presented mainly in the ICAD Proceedings, it can be constantly updated. Thus, an important feature of this tool, is the ability for researchers to include their most current work that could guide auditory display designers. We encourage you to include your research papers in the database and to give us feedback on the utility and usability of the site (contact David Lane, lane@rice.edu).
